it’s always something
BY MIDNIGHT, SATURDAY’S BARSTOOL POETRY BOOK PARTY #6 WAS SHAPING UP TO BE MAYBE our best event yet.
The back patio at the Violet Crown Social Club on East 6th Street was packed with Eastside hipsters, college kids, Austin locals and a smattering of out-of-towners, many of whom showed up specifically for our Barstool Poetry shindig. Also among the crowd were some of our favorite cab customers-turned-friends (Zac & Jimmy, Dave & Leslie, Bob-o & Katie, Andrew & Mallory & Demi), familiar faces (Carrie, Brandon and Dallas Steve, who brought 3 friends!) and a number of new faces (Songwriter Girl, Black Dude Who Read 2 Poems, Pixie Blonde With Multiple Suggestions, Indiana Adam and Cancer Survivor Marianne).
As if hanging out with all these people wasn’t excellent enough, many more of the drunken masses on the crowded patio seemed to be into the Barstool Poetry idea as well. The table where we set up the 3 bowls – for titles, poems and opinions – was buzzing with activity. And when it came time to read some of the night’s barstool poems aloud, which we did 3 or 4 times, we finally had a PA system with enough muscle to be heard above the din.
All this good mojo and a string of free drinks left me feeling pretty happy – and hammered – by the end of the night. During every one of these events I’ve told people that, in the spirit of Barstool Poetry, I was looking to get good and drunk.
Saturday night was the first time it actually happened.

Pretty sure the universe just swallowed those poems. Sometimes when “too” much creative genius escapes into this dimension, it has a way of mysteriously vanishing! Pretty sure it has something to do with time travel and or dark aliens. Not sure though. Best to not worry & move on! #morepoetrytobemade #mystery #poems #disappear #timetravel

Great story, Bobby M. Sad, but wonderfully Bobbyesque. You still got it, my friend. What I want to know, is when is your next book coming out?

Thanks, Dina. You read the crap version that needed your editor’s pen. It’s been cleaned up now, thankfully. As for the next book, I’m gonna use what’s left of these to make a modest little book. Then I’m gonna get back to writing my book about the Camino. DEFINITELY want to finish that one before I put anything else on my plate. You offered at one point to work on contingency as my editor. I may just take you up on that if the offer still stands.
